When I was an executive for an international non-profit, I had a unique management style that really worked. I would devote the majority of my day for staff to be able to pop into my office and summarize an issue. Then I would help them figure out the next steps. Sometimes it was a pep talk or confirmation, sometimes I would model language that they should use on that next phone call or email, and other times, we would need to get down to the basics of an issue investigating motives and other “whys” that might be blocking or preventing the next steps. I did this for 20 years! So, I got good at it.
Since I’ve retired, this skill has not… Yet it seems sorely needed in our current world. I have a wide friend circle that now gets the benefit of that 30+ years, and I find myself getting into many conversations about retirement and living your life, wherever I go.
With my guidebook modules, sometimes things do not fit cleanly into a box and you may need to chat with someone about it. My approach to assisting you is more like a tough-love best friend, your best girlfriend, or the mom you wish you had. I want to give you perspective, I want to support you and build a bridge for you so that you can continue without me.
